3 Things I Love about Fall (and 1 Thing I'm Looking forward to)

I heard someone say today that people don't talk about fall when it isn't fall. I guess you can say that's also true for me, but now that it's here, I can't stop thinking about what I love about this season. Here are some of the things I love about fall!
1. Fall flavors! Yeah, I know that everyone goes nuts about pumpkin spice everything, and while I'm definitely one who jumps on that boat, I think there's more to life than PSLs. For instance, take this caramel apple cheesecake crepe from Kagen's Coffee and Crepes. If you haven't tried it yet, you definitely should. It's the crepe of the month! And yes, I am also that girl who is actively lobbying that they bring back the sweet potato cheesecake crepe. Who can say no to toasted marshmallows atop that yummy filling? And once you get over the sweet stuff, there's thousands of perfect fall soup recipes that you can just pop into the Crock Pot. Gimme all the butternut squash! (Oh, and it doesn't hurt when you get to spend time chatting with your favorite gal pals over these delicious meals!)
2. Sweater weather! Is there anything better than getting cozy in warm sweaters, scarves and boots? (Yes...it's called a sweet potato cheesecake crepe) Sure, it means having to say see you later to sundresses and sandals, but I love transitioning into my fall wardrobe. Pencil skirts and cardigans go with everything, and you don't have to iron the back of your shirts when you wear cardis!
3. College football! Gooooooo Dawgs! Sic 'em! Woof, woof, woof woof, woof! I admit that this one is a little bittersweet. I miss the feel of sitting in the students' section at Sanford Stadium and the atmosphere of enjoying a football game with 90,000 of your closest friends. I'll never forget the first football game I went to when UGA beat Tennessee 21-10. (One for the books for sure, since it was the first time we had beat Tennessee in a decade.) While I miss the feel of the perfect football weather and the excitement of cheering out loud whenever our team scored a touchdown, I still get to call the Dawgs and engage in occasional smacktalk with friends and family who love other teams.
And one thing I'm looking forward to:
HOLIDAY SEASON!
I'm purposely not saying Christmas season because let's face it, we don't talk about that until it's actually Christmas. BUT I am so excited for Thanksgiving and all of the things that happen around Advent. While I am a firm believer in celebrating liturgically, I also get warm fuzzies thinking about all the Thanksgiving sides (green bean salad, potatoes, stuffing, and cornbread are better than the turkey - don't fight me on this.) and gatherings with friends. Sure, face time easily wears me out, and I shut my door and lay in bed for an entire day after social functions, but there's something about holidays that makes time with loved ones a little more special. So bring on the curry spiced soups and apple cider while I snuggle up in a warm blanket in time for kickoff! And while we're at it, let's start scheduling holiday cookie exchanges - We may need some extra sweets to get us through the winter!
